Child safety standards
the short version
- Boredchat has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).
- Boredchat is for people aged 18 and over only, checked at sign up.
- You can report on every profile, chat and call. Moderators review every report.
- We remove CSAE content, ban the account for good and report it to NCMEC and the authorities.
- Child safety contact: [email protected]
1. Zero tolerance
Boredchat, developed by Merieu Private Limited, does not allow child sexual abuse and exploitation of any kind. This includes:
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM): any image, video, audio or text that sexualises anyone under 18, real, drawn or generated;
- grooming, or trying to contact, meet or build trust with a minor for sexual purposes;
- sextortion, or threatening to share sexual images of a minor;
- trafficking, or advertising or asking for sexual services involving a minor;
- asking for, sharing or linking to any of the above.
These rules are part of our terms of use and community rules, which everyone accepts at sign up.
2. 18+ age gate
- The first step of sign up asks for your birth date. Anyone under 18 is stopped there and can't create an account.
- Your age shows on your card, so other people can see it and report profiles that look underage.
- The app is rated for adults in the App Store and Google Play.
- If we learn that a user is under 18, we close the account.
3. In-app reporting
Report is available on every profile, chat, message, photo, video, voice note and call. Pick the reason Underage for anyone who seems under 18, or Nudity or sexual content for sexual material. Reports are private. The person never learns who reported them. You can also block and unmatch at once.
Our community rules explain the steps in the app.
4. Moderator review
Every report goes to a queue that trained moderators review. Reports about minors or sexual content involving minors go to the top of the queue. Moderators see a copy of the reported item so they can act on it, and every action is logged.
5. Removal and permanent ban
- We remove CSAE content as soon as we find it.
- We ban the account for good. The same Google or Apple account and email can't sign up again.
- We keep the evidence securely, for as long as the law requires, so the authorities can investigate.
6. Reporting to the authorities
We report apparent child sexual abuse material and exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to the relevant national authorities and law enforcement where the user or victim is. We cooperate with lawful requests from the police.
7. Compliance with the law
We follow the child safety laws that apply to us, including the rules on reporting and removing child sexual abuse material in the EU and in the countries where Boredchat is available. We review these standards when the law changes.
8. Child safety contact
