Community rules
the short version
- Be kind. Everyone here is a stranger until they aren't.
- Nothing sexual without clear consent. Nothing at all involving minors.
- No harassment, hate, threats, scams, spam or selling.
- Report and block anyone who makes you feel unsafe. They won't know it was you.
1. Be kind
Boredchat is for having fun with people you don't know yet. Treat them the way you want to be treated. Saying no, not replying and unmatching are all fine. Take a no as a no.
2. Respect consent
- No nudity or sexual content without clear consent. Ask first, and only send it if the other person clearly says yes. "Clear" means they said so, not that they didn't say no.
- Your bio and profile photos are seen by many people. Keep them free of nudity and sexual content.
- Consent can be taken back at any time. Stop when someone asks you to.
3. Absolutely no content involving minors
Boredchat is only for people aged 18 and over. Never share, ask for or talk about sexual content involving anyone under 18, real or not. We ban accounts at once and report them to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the authorities. Read our child safety standards.
If you think someone you're talking to is under 18, report them with the reason Underage.
4. Never do this
- Harassment. No insults, bullying, unwanted repeated messages or pressuring someone after they said no.
- Hate. Nothing that attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability or similar.
- Threats and violence. No threats, and nothing that encourages violence.
- Self-harm. Never encourage someone to hurt themselves. If someone seems to be in danger, report them so we can help.
- Scams and money. Don't ask for money, gifts, crypto or bank details.
- Spam and selling. No ads, links to sell things, promotion or sending people off to other apps for business.
- Impersonation. Be yourself. No fake profiles and no pretending to be someone else.
- Private info. Don't share someone's address, phone number or photos without their permission.
- Illegal content. Nothing that breaks the law, like drugs, weapons or stolen content.
5. One-time view and screenshots
- One-time view photos and videos open once. The app blocks screenshots and screen recording while they are open.
- Don't try to get around this, for example by filming the screen with another phone. It breaks these rules and may get you banned.
- Normal photos and videos can be saved by the person you send them to. If you don't want something kept, send it as one-time view, or don't send it.
- Never share someone's photos, videos, voice notes or messages outside Boredchat without their permission.
6. Report and block
You can report and block from every profile, chat and call. The person won't know it was you.
- On a profile: open a match's profile from the top of your chat, tap the menu, then Report or Block.
- In a chat: tap the menu at the top of the chat, then Report, Block or Unmatch. You can also press and hold a single message, photo or voice note and tap Report message to report just that.
- In a call: tap Report on the call screen, then Report and block.
Pick a reason (Nudity or sexual content, Harassment or hate, Spam or scam, Underage, Fake profile or Something else) and add a note if it helps. Blocking hides you from each other for good. Unmatching removes the chat for both of you.
If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.
7. What happens next
A moderator reviews every report. They see only the reported item, never the rest of your chat. Depending on how serious it is, they may:
- Warn the account. The person has to read and accept the warning before they can go on.
- Suspend the account until a set date.
- Ban the account for good. A banned person can't sign up again with the same Google or Apple account.
We may also remove content. Anything involving minors, threats of violence or serious crime leads to a ban and may be reported to the authorities.
8. How to appeal
If you think we got it wrong, email [email protected] from the email on your Google or Apple account, with the subject "Appeal". Tell us what happened and why you think the decision should change. A different moderator reviews it, and we reply within 14 days.
